Has New York State Passed the Point of No Return?

Friends, this week's Newsmaker Show asks a whole bunch of searching questions, among them this one: can New Yorkers take back control of their state from a gang of self-interested, corrupt politicians?  The recent resignation of New York's Lieutenant-Governor, who is charged with being part of a bribery scheme, puts this question front and center.  I argue that New Yorkers need (desperately) to vote Republican this November, because, if we become a one-party state, all hope of accountability is lost.

In addition, Brian and I cover such weighty topics as: inflation and its political effects, the coming battle royal in eastern Ukraine, and the horrors of China's merciless campaign to eradicate COVID by oppressing its own citizens.

When we get to "This Day in History", Brian and I talk about Hitler's (misplaced) bravado in April 1945, the (stupefying) strategic implications of the 1941 Non-Aggression Pact between the USSR and Japan, and the rights and wrongs of the Katyn Massacre of Polish officers by the Soviets, which the Western Allies labored to cover up.

In other news, "President" Biden deplores "genocide".  That is, our fake leader opposes fake genocide.  How does he feel about actual genocide, though?  Eh.  He's got bigger fish to fry.

If you are not already aware of this, an excellent Polish historical drama film about this massacre was made in 2007 appropriately titled "KATYN". The mass murder scenes were very realistic. What a tragedy! That asshole Stalin had liquidated from 15 to 20 thousand members of the anti-Communist Polish intellectual class and officer elite.

  2. Dr.Waddy from Jack: NY State is deservedly despised, from without and within, for its cynical corruption. You have suggested tbat only a robust two party dynamic could effectively combat this. But: there is the vast lala land amoeba on tbe Hudson! Because of it, I cannot see ever a democracy in our state! But, the Federal Gov't, under a loyally American executive administration, (why even the Bidenistas allowed the Federal prosecution of Benjamin) could make hob of the antiAmerican NY left in office!

  3. Dr.Waddy from Jack: Last time inflation was raging as it is now we got President Reagan, lickety split!Pore ol' Jimmy was as feckless as Biden. How will three more years of a spavined Presidency be?. If we win big in Nov. can we put a remedial political barrier around him like unto the way an oyster deals with an unremovable irritant? Perhaps Kevin McCarthy would be a good temporary Prime Minister. Impeachment might harm an advantage we may have in sidelining these America haters and ending their shameful sojourne in power. Let Biden stew in office until his term expires, so that his comprehensive incompetence can do maximum disenfranchisement upon his rump party!

  4. Dr. Waddy from Jack: I've never thought about the importance of the Japan-USSR agreement in 1941. You supported your opinion of its significance well. Japan's most frantic concern then was to seize the moment, AS THEY SAW IT, to secure an unassailable route to Japan for vital East Indies oil. That done, they could deal with the Rus all in good time and prepare for the inevitable reckoning somewhere in the Middle East or India, with the Boche.

  5. Ray, I wasn't aware of the film, no. I'm indebted to you. I'll look it up. Maybe I could show it in my Western Civ class. A little commie barbarism might be edifying!

Jack, you're right that this will always be a blue state (at least until Putin decides to vaporize the Big Apple), but there's a difference between a blue state and a one-party state, I would argue. In California, for all intents and purposes the statewide GOP has ceased to exist as a viable contender for power. California's death spiral is thus well underway. In New York, maybe, just maybe, the Republicans can mount a comeback and capture the governorship this year. If so, that will at least keep the Dems minimally "honest" in future. I did say MINIMALLY! Ha ha.

Impeachment? I'd view it as an irrelevance. You're right: it could be perceived as overplaying our already strong hand. I suspect, though, that the dynamics of 2024 will speak for themselves. If, say, Biden was impeached and not removed in 2023, no one will care and few will remember by November 2024.

Jack, the Axis essentially had no master strategy, and that is hardly surprising given that Germany, Italy, and Japan were BARELY allies to begin with.

Clearly, both the Germans and the Japanese underestimated the Soviets. They had a golden opportunity to obliterate Soviet/Russian power once and for all, and thus divide Eurasia between them. They blew it. To be fair, though, it must have seemed to them (as it did to almost everyone) that the Red Army was whipped by October 1941 and thus their lack of strategy had carried the day. Oops.

  6. Dr.Waddy from Jack : Our last GOP governor did do some good despite the contempt displayed by NYC for unenlightened upstate He ended state prisoners'free mail (a ridiculously conceived touchy-feely give away meant to "encourage" prisoners to stay in touch with their families) and taxpayer paid free college courses which did not address or alleviate the fundamentally skewed thinking which enables criminals to victimize! Difference was; he was not dealing with a Dem ruled state Senate.
