Friends, let's be clear: the title of this post refers to political death, which is similar to physical death, but much, much more serious! As the article below makes plain, Senate Minority Leader Mitch McConnell is doubling down on his RINO worldview by donating to the reelection campaign of alleged Republican Congresswoman Liz Cheney, who has distinguished herself as a critic of Donald Trump and everyone who supports him. McConnell's pro-Cheney position is odd, because it's bound to cause friction between McConnell and, well, the vast majority of the members of his own party. It's also an exercise in futility, since anyone with half a brain can see that Liz Cheney hasn't a prayer of winning a Republican primary in her state. What's her backup plan? Maybe run for the House anyway as an independent? That wouldn't surprise me. And how will Mitch's donations to Liz look then? Even dumber than they look now. My advice to Mitch, therefore, is: stop while you're ahead! Right now, if you behave yourself, you might just get the chance to serve as Majority Leader once more. On the other hand, you're already the least popular major political figure in America, so...maybe stop going out of your way to make the problem worse? Just a thought.
With regard to Mitch, once an a.hole, always an a.hole!
ReplyDeleteMcConnell is yet another career politician who has been around the DC Sewer so long, he actually thinks he is important. He needs to retire and find a hobby. Lots of these types in Congress.
ReplyDeleteI agree about the a.hole part, but truthfully McConnell IS important. He's one of the most important, influential men in this country. Where he errs, perhaps, is in thinking he's indestructible. My gut tells me that Republicans will take the Senate in November, but old Mitch will find himself demoted to the rank-and-file. We shall see.
ReplyDeleteDr. Waddy et al from Jack: I have reservations about heavy criticism of Mitch. The old bastard's courageous past stands made this last Scotus nomination simply a confirmation of fully expected leftist bigotry with little actual damage to a still formidably lawful Scotus. He gave Obama fits, though Obama had little concern for much beyond the perks of office. He is a very able politician and may yet, in this, yes, concerning contribution, have his crafty reasons. Your doubt of him is highly plausible but I retain faith in him.
ReplyDeleteJack, I don't doubt Mitch's tactical virtuosity as a Washington insider. I do very much doubt his understanding of/respect for the Republican base.
