Don't Worry -- Be Happy!

Friends, there are about a thousand and one reasons not be a leftist, but topping my list is this gem: liberalism is such a downer.  According to most liberals, we are living in the very worst of times: Trumpian tyranny, income disparity, police brutality, sexism and racism run amuck, environmental emergency -- you name it and we're knee deep in it, or so they say.  As you and I know, however, we're darn lucky to live in the good ole USA at the beginning of the 21st century, in the freest, most prosperous, and most dynamic society that has ever existed.  Moreover, most of the blights on civilization perceived by leftists are either phony, exaggerated, or both.  Today I bring you more good cheer, to counteract the doom-saying that the Left is constantly engaged in.

First, check out this article, which deconstructs the leftist assumption that climate change is responsible for all inclement weather, and the weather, by and large, is destined to get infinitely worse.  In fact, even though global temperatures have risen in recent decades, life for most people has gotten much, much better, especially in the Third World, and those trends are set to continue.  It's a very intriguing and well-supported analysis:

In addition, you may want to ponder Rush Limbaugh's predictions for the midterm elections.  He discounts the "blue wave" polls, and he forecasts instead an expanded Republican majority in the Senate as well as a House of Representatives that remains in responsible GOP hands.  My predictions, which are coming soon, are very similar.  And, in any event, the worst case scenario for Republicans is that we lose the House...and Democrats tie themselves in knots for the next two years, trying to decide who to impeach.  That wouldn't be the end of the world.  In any case, here is what Rush has to say:

So, you see, we don't live in the worst of all possible worlds, after all.  Quite the contrary!

  1. Thanks, Kenny! Life isn't all sunshine and rainbows, it's true, but we might as well accentuate the positive, right?

  2. Dr. Waddy: Affirmative, affirmative, affirmative. We are incredibly lucky to live in this time and this country. In an information rich, educated culture we can be fully appreciative of this great good fortune. The left would gladly do to us what it did do to Cambodia - a country which had unneeded change forced on it. The American left MIGHT not be as crudely murderous as were Pol Pot's hell hounds; they might be satisfied simply with making noncitizens of those who dare to dissent. Maybe . . .

  3. Ha! Wouldn't it be ironic if the Dems ultimately deported all the true patriots to Mexico? That might be the best case scenario, in fact, if they ever solidified their grip on power... I thought the Obama years were bad, but the leftists' contempt for their political adversaries has skyrocketed since those days. I wouldn't be optimistic about our prospects.

  4. Dr. Waddy: Some level headed people have suggested that it may eventually be recognized by Americans of good will that it is too much to ask that right and left coexist in our country. A to be hoped for amicable divorce might then be enacted. Just imagine though how it would be for us in the NY People's Pepublic of the Politically Correct Union of Coastal Entities of Putative "America". Come January, Chairman Cuomo will give us a preview.

  5. Jack, there may someday be a divorce, but I'd be surprised if it was amicable. Not much is amicable in America these days... Having said that, as long as the People's Republic of NY cedes the Upstate region to the Trumpian Heartland, I won't shed any tears.

  6. Dr. Waddy: Oh, I don't think that Potentate Cuomo would willingly give up a cent of revenue to be given to the un productive in his fevered (and free of personal consequences for him) crusade to right the wrongs of the world.

  7. True, Jack, true -- but would the Dems agree to a redistribution of land to achieve the dream of a People's Republic devoid of Trump and Republicans? Maybe.

  8. Dr. Waddy: Most of them would have no choice. I am reminded of the anecdote of a recently empowered Hitler turning in the Reichstag to a faction he loathed but had used and saying "and now I have no further use of you". Should the real totalitarians realize that their dominance is inevitable they will hasten to visit upon the wavering "the consequences of their terrible folly" as have such savages time and again in recent history. Some neo Stalin would be directing the transformation ( he may well be bustling already in our polity) and he would blithely give the foofoos to understand that a force unperceivable to them in its ferocity is at the gates. It would be much too late for them then. Redistribution would be entirely out of their hands. Their regret at having been employed to destroy one who sought to preserve American freedom would avail them nothing.

  9. That's a chilling scenario, to be sure, Jack, but can you really see our military and police playing along with the institution of a leftist dictatorship? Sure, if Hillary had had the opportunity to purge them for a few more years, maybe, but I like to think that the men in blue (and green) give us a little bit of a firewall against neo-Stalinism. Maybe I'm naive.

  10. Dr. Waddy: I don't think you are naive and I think it entirely possible that they would save us. They did stay loyal under the reign of Slick Willy and Marine Waiter deployer Hillary, who were beneath their contempt ( and can you imagine losing your child to military action commanded by those two?). They've never gotten out of line on civilian control but who knows what it might take to mobilize them?

  11. Indeed, who knows. We might have found out by now if Hillary had won... I would hope that Trump has reversed the PC culture that was taking root in the US military, but given the depth and permanence of the "deep state" I wouldn't be entirely sure of it.
