If At First You Don't Succeed...

Friends, the Big Apple, which has been staring imminent Mamdani-fication in the face for the last several weeks, just got another sobering piece of news: Andrew Cuomo is doublng down on his bid for the mayoralty!  This sets up a fascinating, high stakes clash between the progressive and "moderate" wings of the Democratic Party.  Let us hope that this internecine quarrel becomes increasingly ruthless and brutal, and that the Left, by the end of it, becomes a house divided, never again to reunite!  That's an optimistic reading of the situation, I'll admit, but I've always believed that the only permanent way to liberate America from the danger of Democratic/progressive rule is to split the movement into smaller, unviable factions.  Thanks to Emperor Andy, we're one step closer.

  1. Dr. Waddy from Jack: I'm not sure what to think of Cuomo's declaration to say with any conviction what effect it could have.

I wonder how strong the "anyone but Mamdani "vote could be and if a good many dems will be swung by it. That vote may draw some disaffected dems to Sliwa. Cuomo could have the effect of splitting the "anyone but Mamdani" vote enough that Comrade Mamdani would triumph.

I think Cuomo's main motivation is setting himself up as the
"moderate " Dem for 2028. Even if he loses the Mayoralty he can expectorate: '"look what I did to try to prevent NYC from electing a marxist. See, not all "democrats" are raving radicals" Of course if he wins he'll have a very plausible base for seeking the nomination as the "savior of NY". In one of his ads he preached (as always) that only 13% of Dem voters went for Mamdani in the primary. If so, there may be room for him. Feckless Adams is nevertheless a likeable guy and he may stand so in sharp contrast to melodramatically egotistical Cuomo.

In most cases we benefit from the candidacy of Comrade Mandami though I would not wish him on the millions of common sense people in NYC. I'm confident Cuomo cannot be elected President so let him go for the nomination any way he can. I can just see presumptuous pedantic Cuomo campaigning in red state America or even near it. Adams would have no chance for that but if he were to rewin the mayoralty he could take the mantle of "moderate" redeemer away from Prince Cuomo nationally. Ehh, wot duh . . . !?

What a bizarre phenomenon this election is! Maybe , just maybe Sliwa can slip past them all. C'mon NY! You elected Guiliani, you can do this.

I know NOTHING about New York politics, so I'm not going to make a fool of myself by pretending I do. With that said, I'll float some of my opinions on what I think your problems may be. Aside from Albany, it seems like New York State would be a far better place if New York City became a separate state. Do I have a point? Anyway that could happen? NYC always seems to be riddled with corruption.

My late Dad was from upstate New York (Wurtsboro), which is probably not enough upstate. Been to all of the 50 states, but the only place I have been in New York, is JFK airport. I can tell you from what I have seen in photographs, it is a beautiful state, especially The Adirondacks and The Finger Lakes region. What a shame it is dominated by a bunch of left-wing political hucksters, an understatement. Worse yet, the Clintons reside there.

Well, let me know, if I am even coming close to your situation. Thanks.

Almost forgot, I have been to Niagara Falls, New York, although I did lodge on the Canadian side during my visit. When I was in Burlington, Vermont, I wanted to go to the New York side of Lake Champlain, but I was there in late October, and the ferry had stopped the run two weeks before. The weather was a least good, so I had a good view of the beautiful Adirondacks across Lake Champlain. Again, more than a shame that the politicians who control your politics are such a. holes.
