The Nail in Biden's Coffin?

Friends, mark my words -- this could end up being one of the most consequential political stories of 2020: Justin Amash, Never Trumper extraordinaire, is gearing up to run for President as a Libertarian.  One can argue that Gary Johnson's Libertarian bid in 2016 may have hurt Trump more than it hurt Hillary, but be that as it may I believe that, the more candidates are in the race in 2020, the more likely Trump is to win it.  The reason is simple: Trump will struggle, for obvious reasons, to get to 50% of the popular vote.  If he can win with, say, 46%, as he did before, well, that's a more realistic path for him.  Is Justin Amash too dense to realize this?  Let's hope so!  I know that third party candidates don't generally attract much notice, but trust me -- in a country this evenly divided, every little bit helps!  I believe Justin Amash and his gigantic ego could be a huge asset to the forces of light in 2020.

  1. For a second there when I saw the word coffin and the name Biden I thought that he had passed away and this was an obituary. So another deadbeat politician has decided to run for President?

  2. and deny it to mindless Dems, to assure Trump a plurality? And that is all Lincoln and Nixon ('68) needed.

  3. Dr. Waddy: For the third time, I tried to comment but this site once again erased most of my comments. I give up. F--K 'em.

It seems to me that your comments getting erased is a new thing. Anyway, hope you get this problem straightened out soon. Good luck on this.

  4. Jack, dont give up commenting...Blogger likes to play around, sigh...ha Ray! Thanks.

P.S. I stand firm: Hillary or Cuomo for a brokered convention of sorts.

  5. Linda and Ray: Thanx; oh no I won't stop commenting. I was just giving up for the night. The Jabberwocky above my departure is typical of the truck I've been getting from somewhere in the computer world, with which I have a very longstanding adversarial relationship; I win some I lose some but our distrust and enmity is for aye.

  6. Dr. Waddy et al: I was trying to say last night that my computer would not allow me the Fox article, even on my Email and that my comments are without what it asserted. I thought at first that a Libertarian might take more votes from Trump as such would seem ideologically closer to the President. But Biden may be the weakest Dem candidate ever and especially with the totalitarian radical wing of the "Me Too" movement advocating automatic condemnation upon accusation of any male tasked so.These factors, together with the fact that most "never Trumpers" are leftists (I know, there are "useful idiots" even among us)make me think your analysis above highly plausible.

  7. DO NOT FORGET that the real threat to Trump in 2020 is whoever Biden picks (or has picked for him) as his Vice President. I can't imagine it is not going to be a woman, in which case a lot of voters might just go with Biden BECAUSE of his VP choice. My point is that a lot of people voted for Obama simply because he is Black (or passes the test for it), and the temptation to vote emotionally because of race or gender is extremely powerful. Thusly, people will not vote for the best qualified candidate but for emotional or guilt trip reasons. As I have said before, a DemoLIAR victory this year is not an impossibility. The next six months is going to be a little "age of anxiety" for anyone who does not want to see the DemoCRAZIES back in power, which ensures a future United Socialist States of America. They have been hijacked by the radical left since 2016, and a Marxist Dictatorship (American style) is what they will attempt to force on the American people. If Trump does not win in November 2020, this is the LAST FREE ELECTION we will see in the foreseeable future.

  8. Dr. Waddy: This well could be. Imagine a world of 2021 reflexive disdain for all but of the consummate left? Could well be!! It is absolutely certain they would enact this had they the power! The remedy? Deny them the power while we may. If we do not rally now, the rational world is lost! Our world will sink under the presumptuous, dedicated onslaught of dreamy idealism, with the consequences shielded from the progenitors.

  9. ALSO DO NOT FORGET that the DemoSOCIALISTS and their pimps in the media, academic world, and film industry are using this pandemic to meet their political agenda. In reality, the DemoTRASH are loving every minute of this economic meltdown, not only as a sword against Trump, but also as an exercise in mass control. Think about it. For this tight-knit ruling elite of arrogant snobs, a dream has come true.

  10. Ray: They do present a fundamental, existential threat to all we value. Their ideology is thoroughly discredited because wherever it has gained dominance it has dissembled and degraded beyond belief. The MSM and our "universities" are telling examples and irrefutable warnings in their unrepentant lack of professionalism. They have become swamps of leftist totalitarianism and bigotry, disgraced beyond measure. Imagine our entire country becoming Oberlin or UMass.

  11. Dr. Waddy et al: So many unexpected dynamics are at work in this election! Were it not for the tragic possibility of the suppression of the real America in a Trump defeat, it would be fascinating. But if we win hindsight will yield reward enough.

Biden may be so uninspiring a candidate that many Dems will simply stay home and very many manic left Trump haters will direct their vote to a 3rd candidate. 1860 is brought to mind and I think if Trump is reelected we can expect possibly analogous (in its resolve, probably not in its 1861 military manifestation) conviction on the part of the atavistic left (yes, as surely as were the slaveholders) that the electoral system is completely discredited by its failure to satisfy them. That would of course simply be an affirmation of what the left has long held true; our democracy is pathologically corrupt and ,by definition, cannot be just. "Why, the results alone prove that!"

How would this conclusion be manifested? I dunno. Late '60's and early '70's style futile "guerrilla"? The creation of leftist fortresses by such as Cuomo and Newsom? One thing is for sure; it would be disdainful and presumptuous. Yes , the left has achieved dominance beyond any reckoning in terribly cursed lands in the 20th century. Its failure was murderously OBVIOUS. Is it enough to prevent its reimposition? Even a hint of Gulag should motivate any country to defeat any who even suggest in any way a reprise of this madness! This has been demonstrated in undemocratic countries like Indonesia. Their measures are impossible in our country as long as the left does not take it over. After that, their reflexive iconoclasm would enable any physical measure of repression of dissent. Let us trust in that certainty and see 2020 in that light!

  12. Ray, at this stage I frankly don't think that, if Biden died, it would affect his campaign that much. He and his supporters have all taken on the qualities of the undead. Listlessly staggering to the finish line is about all they're capable of.

You're still betting on Hillary or Cuomo, eh Linda? Ordinarily that would be pie-in-the-sky, but no one can deny that Biden is, uh, unconventional in his attributes...

Jack, you're right that ordinarily a Libertarian would be a threat to a Republican, but Amash has distinguished himself so much as a Trump-hater that I think that's the demographic he'll excite. Even REAL Libertarians are likely to be non-plussed by him, because they'll see him as a man with an axe to grind, and not truly "one of them". So I'm encouraged!

I agree with Ray that the Dems will push every emotional button they can think of to turn out their base in 2020, including (and especially) racism and sexism. I have my doubts, however, that even a black female VP candidate will get very many young firebrands excited about Biden. VP picks have never been that consequential in the past. Granted, Biden has one foot in the grave, so this year could be different.

Ray, you're right that this incipient depression doesn't seem to phase the Dems in the least. Even the searing pain of the downtrodden (who supposedly they care for) is nothing to them compared to the opportunity to snigger at Trump and say, "Where's your economic boom now?" The pandemic, and the economic slowdown, are very dynamic processes, however. The whole debacle may be a distant memory by November.

Jack, the comparison to 1860 is intriguing. Let's be honest: Lincoln never would have been elected President unless he was fighting a four-way contest. That could be true of Trump in 2020 as well. Trump's reelection COULD presage the breakup of the Union too. One wonders how Trump would react to a serious secessionist movement. He might just say, "Bye bye!"

    ReplyDelete
  13. Dr. Waddy: Yeah, but: President Trump would have more Federal power in his hand than did Lincoln in 1861. I think the two fiestiest regions of our country are the South and the Mountain West. But they are also our most patriotic regions and, I think, would fully support a Federal effort to suppress secessionist movements in resented places like New England (outside, perhaps NH and Maine), CA, Oregon and of course Cuomo York to drag their real American electoral minorities into rebellion. If Trump wins, I do not doubt at all that the prospect will rise but it cannot muster the strength manifested by the Confederacy.

  14. Quite right, Jack. For one thing, the People's Republic of America would be geographically non-contiguous. It would be a real mess from the start. Would Trump try to suppress it by force, though? That I don't know.

    ReplyDelete
  15. Dr. Waddy: Not only would the incipient People's Republic be burdened by very great geographical disadvantages but also by predictable ideological conflicts. "Why you New Yawkas are far too compulsive for we surfers". Their mutual perfectionism would work to their dissolution and consequent defeat. Witness? The Paris Commune and its demise.

  16. Well said, Jack! The leftists despise each other ALMOST as much as they despise us. If they were ever to succeed in removing us from the board (perish the thought!), they would be at each other's throats in no time, just like the Old Bolsheviks. I suppose that would be a comfort to us as we rotted in Siberia...
