Elizabeth Warren Noses Ahead in Democratic Horse Race

Friends, the news is coming thick and fast!  Today, for the first time, the RealClearPolitics polling average has Liz Warren narrowly ahead of Joe Biden.  This is BIG!  Biden has been flagging for a while now, but if these trends continue he may have to get much more aggressive if he hopes to save his candidacy.  I've said it before, and I'll say it again -- Warren benefits from the fact that NO ONE in the Democratic Party is currently bothering to attack her.  It's about time that Liz takes a little incoming fire, don't you think?

In other news, President Trump's tactics at the border are working -- and naturally the media is taking no notice.  When Trump runs for reelection in 2020, the wall will be only partially built, but he will certainly have done everything in his power to put our house in order, immgration-wise.  He has much to be proud of!

Over in Europe, the last chess pieces are being moved in the Battle over Brexit.  Will Prime Minister Boris Johnson and the EU bigwigs manage to strike a deal?  Gamesmanship is the order of the day right now, but time is running out.  British and EU leaders have about ten days to resolve their differences.  After that, Johnson is supposed to ask for an extension to the Brexit deadline, but swears no extension will happen.  In other words, matters will come to a head!  The best case for Johnson, and for Britain, is that the EU (meaning at least one country in the EU) will say a definite "no!" to further extensions.  Then it's a no-deal Brexit, whether Parliament likes it or not.  My fingers are crossed!

Finally, the bad news is that polls indicate that support for impeachment and removal of President Trump is distressingly high.  Democrats and the media have successfully hoodwinked about half of the American people.  The good news is that Democrats don't really care about the practicalities of impeachment, as this poll shows, and they may therefore pursue it even if its popularity sags, which I believe is likely.  Impeachment fatigue will set in soon enough.  By then, it may be too late for the Dems to back out.  Stay tuned.

  1. I think Johnson is backed into a corner with no way out. I see no deal and I also think Johnson will be out of a job sooner than later.

I don't put any stock in the polls anymore as they were so wrong in the 2016 election. I also think they are backed into a corner and there is no way out,Shifty Schiff is def. feeling the most pain, but for whatever reason, he refuses to back down.

Ah, Liz Warren. I do believe her version of being fired while pregnant will blow up in her face. I just don't believe women in particular believe it (at least the ones I have spoken too).

  2. Linda, it certainly seems as though most observers are expecting no new deal to emerge from these last-minute talks...although most observers are clearly rooting against Johnson! Will he be "out of a job"? It could easily happen. If no new deal coalesces, then he may or may not FORMALLY request an extension, but informally he'll do everything in his power to prevent one. That might goad Parliament into voting no confidence. It might be the only way left for them to avoid a "no deal" Brexit. Then again, even removing Johnson wouldn't necessarily achieve that objective, because they'd have to choose a new government, and they've shown no ability to do so. We might see a "no deal" outcome simply because the clock runs out.

I have more faith in the polls than you do, although some of them are clearly designed to boost the Dems. I also believe enthusiasm for impeachment will fade with time...

The Liz Warren pregnancy-gate thing is interesting. She's got a lot going against her, and if we add dishonesty to the list she could be a real stinker in 2020! I hope so. On the other hand, we want her to get the nomination first...and THEN crash and burn.

  3. Dr. Waddy: Thank you as always for providing such a wealth of empirical evidence on the present state of the Dem maelstrom.

  4. Dr. Waddy: Agree with you completely in your praise of President Trump's devotion to his campaign promise to return our immigration policy to lawfulness. Of course this is of fundamental concern to the Dems since they seek many millions of supporters from unenforced immigration law (as if, anyway, they support enforcement of ANY duly established law with which they disagree; they are determined, in their present minority, to empower a new "electoral" process independent of elections). Since they consider themselves undeniably just, they consider this essential and infinitely defensible.

  5. Jack, it would be interesting (and also mortifying) to see what shape immigration policy would take under a President Warren. Note that even Obama couldn't tolerate truly open borders...although he was inching closer. Would Warren be that reckless? I dunno.
