To Parley, or Not to Parley? That is the Question

Friends, the wheels are turning in the White House, and the President's lawyers are debating whether or not to subject him to an interview with Robert Mueller's hit squad. Check out my latest article, in which I analyze all the legal and political ramifications. My bottom line: I think Trump should do an interview, if for no other reason than because it will bring this fiasco to a close sooner rather than later. In said interview, however, Trump should say as little as possible!

  1. Dr. Waddy: The only thing I'd disagree on is the prospect for an alleviation of political division. I think if the President were to come out smelling like a rose the relentless left would simply find another way to "obstruct". They are set on doing scorched earth for his tenure and the increasing public perception that we have a formidable President now will only increase that determination. The radicals rule their Soviet. If many Dems were to be elected by appearing to be willing to work with the President, they might try to revive the Blue Dog faction but they are dealing with a much more extreme Dem party now. It would probably "learn 'em" real quick. Overall, I think your advice to the President is very sound; wonder what Giuliani is telling him?

  2. I wonder too! I fear a subpoena. I really don't want this fiasco to be kicked around by the courts for months or years. I agree, by the way, that the Dems will not give up on obliterating Trump, come what may. They've magnified the Trump-Russia hoax into a national crisis, though, partly with Trump's help, it must be said. I think they'd have difficulty manufacturing another similar brouhaha.

  3. Dr. Waddy: They might well use up too much political capital in this effort and that probably would make it far more difficult to launch a new onslaught. Two who would carry on, Cuomo and Pelosi recently found themselves in the same capacious room (at a meeting perhaps of the American Histrionic League). perhaps of the

  4. Dr. Waddy: Sorry, I hit the wrong button. Cuomo made haste to sneer at NY gun owners while Nancy warmed up her emotive engines. The more they blat, the further their party drifts toward marginality and inability to harm the President. If Cuomo runs he forfeits every vote between Binghamton and Bakersfield; of course, his NY experience may tell him he can win without them.

  5. Jack, I think Cuomo is living in fantasy-land if he evens believes he can win the Democratic nomination. What you say about using up political capital is perceptive. Dems should be asking themselves (and apparently some of them are) why Trump's poll numbers are rising even as MSNBC and CNN keep promising that RussiaStormyObstructionGate will end Trump any day now. Have they shot their bolt? If so, it might be time to consider firing Rosenstein at the very least, and possibly Mueller too.

    1. I agree Dr. Waddy, In lieu of recent developments of Schneiderman, I highly doubt Cuomo could win it.

  6. Dr. Waddy: I think the President's poll numbers are rising because more and more Americans are realizing we have empowered a courageous, decisive and canny Chief Executive. If he fires them now, though the left will soil itself and its pitiful avatars will throw a hissy fit, the real America will stick with him, I think. He's already made some gutsy moves, sometimes against the majority of opinion even of those of good will. He may be about to make another by putting a thumb in the eyes of the Iranian mullahs. I respect well founded and well intentioned advice to him to be cautious but I would rejoice to see him effect both resolutions. Who'd of thunk it three years ago? Donald Trump? Maybe a great President? I can think of one other who was viewed so.

  7. Perhaps you're right, Jack -- perhaps more and more Americans are seeing through the media fog at long last... Trump is accomplishing a great deal, most of it a dream-come-true for constitutional conservatives, but even the middle-of-the-roaders can't ignore the economy and the progress abroad. A win in November would be the icing on the cake. Then the circular firing squad on the left might do some permanent damage! We can only hope...

  8. I'm finally getting some time to read/comment, the semester has finally ended (smiles). I think, honestly, Dr. Waddy, just rip the band aid off and fire Mueller. Enough, it's a farce and the people see it (well, most of us do anyways). Especially in light of the news of that judge who kind of told off Mueller's team concerning Manafort.

  9. Good point, Linda. If the judge ends up dismissing the case against Manafort, or severely rebuking the special counsel, maybe Trump could take the opportunity to fire Mueller, or fire Rosenstein, and then replace him with someone else who would in turn fire Mueller or put him on a tight leash. One question Trump should ask himself: if there's going to be a showdown, do we want to wait until the November election is getting close, or get it over with now?

Best of luck with finals, etc!

  10. Thanks Dr. Waddy, I'm finished, I only had one final and the rest were final papers/essays.

I agree, I just wonder if there is a end game.

  11. Ah, the end game. Everyone is wondering about that... My gut tells me that the best end game for Trump is to let Mueller file his silly report. Once it fizzles, we'll be done with this nonsense. The media will try to talk up whatever it contains, of course, but I doubt they'll have any more luck than they have to date.
